Meet Featured ToonsWare Cartoonist: Chan Lowe

Chan Lowe

Chan Lowe

Chan Lowe got his start in elementary school, drawing caricatures (some cleanerthan others) of his teachers and passing them around the class. He developed a simultaneous fascination with geography from the many hours he spent in the corner, facing classroom walls where the maps were hung. He eventually graduated in 1975 with a degree in Art History from Williams College in Massachusetts, and headed west to Oklahoma, where he honed his satirical drawing craft at several local papers. He also served as a television critic, feature writer, classical music critic and county court reporter, as the situation demanded. In Oklahoma, he learned the joys of shooting catfish heads and whiskey bottles off of fence posts with a .45 caliber pistol.

Chan has been the Sun-Sentinel¹s first and only editorial cartoonist for the past 24 years, and views South Florida not only as a rich lode for political and social commentary, but also as a huge refrigerator door upon which to display his scribblings.
