Meet Featured ToonsWare Cartoonist: Dana Summers

Dana Summers has never been at a loss as to what to do with his time. As the cartoonist for two nationally syndicated comic strips and an editorial cartoon, he sleeps through the majority of his spare time.

Summers’ work is visually arresting and supremely clever. His cartoons for the Orlando Sentinel deliver astute observations about the government, economy, popular culture, even the weather. If it’s in the news, it’s on Summers’ radar. Available in color and black & white.

Summers is the creator of the comic strip “Bound & Gagged.” He also finds time to co-author a second strip, “The Middletons,” with fellow cartoonist Ralph Dunagin. His third job is editorial cartoonist for The Orlando Sentinel. His editorial cartoons have been in syndication since 1985.

Before joining the Sentinel in 1982, Summers enjoyed success as an editorial cartoonist with the Dayton (Ohio) Journal Herald, with prior stints at the Fayetteville (N.C.) Times and as a freelancer for newspapers in Massachusetts.

Summers is a 1971 graduate of the Art Institute in Boston. He has won awards from the Overseas Press Club and the Sigma Delta Chi Society of Professional Journalists. Born in Lawrence, Mass., Summers currently resides in Orlando, Fla. with his wife, Mary Jane.
